My choir audition was great (I mentioned CCA auditions in my previous blog)! I was very natural and even though my voice cracked when the conductor tested my scales🤭, I felt like myself. I did not fake my voice or anything, I was just basically myself.
Previously, when I tried to DSA into choir without any prior experience, I got shortlisted after submitting a video recording of me singing the song "Change" by Taylor Swift (my favouriteeee)😍. Unfortunetely, I changed my song on the actual DSA audition and I assume that was why I did failed the DSA😅. However, getting shorlisted for the DSA because of "Change" helped me to get into my current CCA: CHOIR👏. I sang the song "Change" during the CCA audition and that was how I got in to the best CCA in the whole world. Through this experience, I learnt that no hardwork will be wasted.
In Choir, my singing skills were very raw but after a few sessions, my parents remarked that my singing had improved! I was soooooo overjoyed😆! My vocal position in Choir is Alto 2 (the higest is Soprano, the lowest is Bass. Alto is below Soprano). I love Alto as I feel that our singing is the best🤣.
In Choir, we usually do warmups, before practicing with our vocal sections (I practice with the Altos in a room). After that, towards the end of the session, the whole Choir will come together, with the conductor, and sing as a whole. This year, I am participating in the SYF🥳(a competition between schools in singapore for performing arts CCAs).
However, I learnt that Choir wasn't all about singing. For most of our pieces, we have to dance along to them! And the dances are not easy too!😭 For example, for one of the pieces we will be performing, we had to hire a professional choreographer to choreograph our song.
Aside from dancing, Choir also have regular physical training🥲. The recent one we had, I had to run seven rounds around a school block (about around 8 classrooms) and do planks for 1 minute thrice! (Even though my core is stronger than my classmates because I sing relatively a lot, I am not an expert at planks) 😔. At the end of physical training, I was longing to go home. But still, I understood that as singers, we have to build our core and resilience to sing well. I just hope that the next physical training is not 'round the corner☹️.
In Choir, I also got this very cool Choir pin that was supposed to be pinned on my school uniform collar. My CCA was the first CCA to receive our pin (only some CCA have pins) and as a result, all my classmates envied me😂. I got to show off quite a bit! This made me feel even more proud that I am in Choir as I was the only form my class in Choir!
I love Choir with all my heart and soul. I can't wait to perform! 🤩
