During the December holidays, my family and I visited Hokkaido together! There were 13 of us in total and we had a great time! The trip lasted about 14 days. It was my first time seeing snow and visiting Japan. I learnt a lot during the trip, especially from the Japanese. Their considerate culture is really thoughtful and I am inspired by them!
When we first stepped out of the airport, a rush of cold air greeted us. I never felt that cold before! We slept on traditional Japanese beds in our first hotel beside Lake Toya. We even build a snowman outside of the hotel!
Over the next few days, my family bonded together and we grew closer than ever. We visited Mount. Usu (highly recommended), a stained glass museum, Otaru Canal, Sapporo, Asahimaya Zoo, and Club Med at Tomamu.
At Club Med, I learnt how to ski in three days! I even took the ski lift up a mountain! The highlight of the whole trip is skiing to me, I would definitely ski again! Even though my body ached everyday, the thrill and joy of mastering a new skill is worth it. The whole experience was awesome and time passed really quickly.
On the second last day of our trip, we got to experience ice fishing! We stayed inside a heated tent, where there we several holes in the ice to fish. I caught a fish twice the size of my hand! At the end of the day, we released all of the big fishes we caught and cooked the small fishes to make tempura. They tasted delicious!
Going to Hokkaido for Christmas was one of my favourite family trips. The beautiful memories we curated together as a family will always remain in our hearts. I would want to come back again! The breathtaking scenery, powder snow, fun, laughter and joy I experienced was one of a lifetime. I look forward to having more of such moments with my loved ones. ❤️
